So which one is better?…

Phone
Pro’s
- Always have it on you
- No need to carry around lots of equipment, nice and compact
- Usually has built in filters, auto editing, white balance and other features that can take pictures in one easy click of a button.
Con’s
- Doesn’t look great from a customers point of view taking a professional portrait with a phone
- The quality of the picture will be good with modern phones but still not as good as a picture taken in RAW format with a DSLR camera
- Less ability to choose certain settings to create the type of shot you want. This can include lack of options like focus, exposure and motion blur.
Camera
Pro’s
- Plenty of setting options if you’re looking to get a particular shot, you can pre set a lot and go against what a phone would assume is the correct shot
- Can purchase an array of different lens’ to attach to get that optimal shot
- Pictures taken in formats such as RAW give the user the ability to edit without losing quality and then have the oppertunity to print off pictures at larger sizes without issue.
Con’s
- Expensive if you’ve already got a phone that will do the trick and not fussed on the above.
- You have to do your research on how to use it properly. Camera’s aren’t just a point and shoot if you want to make full use of them.
- Photos save onto an SD card which you then have to plug into a PC to get your photos. With phones you can just send them straight away to friends and family.
Overview
I prefer using a camera as I have a larger range of what I can edit, having the ability to get your photo in a RAW format means that you have a number of things you can do to that image to make it look its best. I can also have my camera settings to get the exact shot that I want. Being able to play with exposure and depth of field can make a very flat picture pop!
However convenience wise my phone does a great job too, if we are on a day out somewhere and wanted to take a photo of something I wouldn’t feel bad for taking a photo with my phone. I have tried to blow up photos from both my camera and phone and there’s an obvious difference. So if you are looking to sell prints or create something large for your wall I’d stick to the camera is a high resolution capture setting like RAW, but if its just for fun and to share on social media your phone will still do an awesome job.
